Unemployment benefits in the state of Massachusetts can be filed for by using the Webcert UI online service. The service is free to use and also allows a user to check the status of an IU claim, check on payment information, submit your Extended Benefit Work Search Log online, update benefit information, obtain a 1099-g form for tax purposes, update or enroll in direct deposit if you in receipt of payments and even expedite your claim. To expedite your claim you will have to supply severance pay information online.
To start the Online Account Registration process please have your SS number, your mother’s maiden name, and the year you were born in. Your mothers maiden name is defined as her last name before she was married. Once you have signed up and are in receipt of benefits you can use the Webcert service to claim your weekly benefits. Although a user can claim their weeks over the phone we recommend the online process. A claimant can claim their benefits by phone or online Sunday through Friday from 7AM to 7PM. Please note that hours are extended to 10pm on Sunday. This online state service is operated by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD).
Unemployment insurance in the state of Massachusetts is provided to those who are out of work due to no fault of their own. You must also be able to work, looking for work and available to work if called upon. This is a TEMPORARY benefit. Also please note that the Webcert online service is not for those who are filing an initial claim. An initial claim cannot be done online and MUST be by calling the TeleClaim Center or visiting a One-Stop Career Center. It is recommended that you call the Career Center in your area to avoid a long wait. Once your initial claim has been filed you should receive your first payment in 3 to 4 weeks assuming you qualify.
